Pongryeok-sseokeul (Gangster High)

Directed by Ki-hyeong Park, starring Jeong Keyonh-oh, Lee Tae-seong, Jang Hee-jim, and Yeon Je-wook. The director Ki-hyeong Park has only written and directed 4 films so far starting in '98 with Yeogo goedam , and following that with Bimil, Acacia and more recently, Gangster High . I haven't seen any other of his films yet, but after watching this film I'll be sure to give them a watch. 'Gangster High', being his youngest one out of the four, released in 2006. So, he's one of the younger film directors I've watching films from. It is a great break from all the Miike and Chan-wook Park films I've subjected myself to, as of late. Since I'm not too familiar with this particular directors work. I mean, I've only seen one his films. I'm not going to talk about him as a... [Read More]

» Heavy Rain

I’ve seen several games that borderline on being twenty-hour movies. Anyone can tell you that Metal Gear Solid 4 is basically a movie for the fanbase with minor gameplay (seriously, an hour ending cutscene. Who is going to sit through that without complaint other than diehard fans?). Take a look at Uncharted 2, which is one, the opposing side of movie-games. The game plays and looks like an action movie –shot for shot—but, it is all player controlled.

Heavy Rain takes an interesting take on video games: a playable movie.
Forgive me if the synopsis of the story is vague, I really am. But the story revolves around the shocking surprises and sometimes-ridiculous events. I don’t want to spoil any of these and potentially take away from the experience.

After the death of son, Jason, Ethan Mars is... [Read More]

» Toki Asako - Touch
Mar 24, 2010 - 9:59 PM - by Tomodachi

Toki Asako is a Japanese Idol singer, born 1976 in Tokyo, Japan. She's the daughter of a famous jazz saxophone player. (apparently he's so famous that you can't find his name anywhere.) From ' 97 to '03 she was the singer for the Japanese indie band 'Cymbals'. With this band, they have a discography of 21 EPs and LPs. As a solo artist she does more Pop and Jazz standard music. Under the name Toki Asako she has released 9 full LPs and various EPs. Not to mention she has worked with the likes of the post-rock band Toe', among various other artists. Her sharp voice and beautiful exterior are really what attract me to her.

The album it's self is a mixture of JPop and Jazz standards. Toki's voice is what you're really focusing on when listening to this album. The instruments are just what set the mood of the song. So in saying that, Ms. Asako has... [Read More]

» Agata - Spike
Mar 24, 2010 - 1:39 PM - by Tomodachi

Okay, I will start by saying this. Agata is one weird motherfucker when it comes to playing the guitar. My first description of this album came from a child that heard it, he said "Mommy, why is that man choking that guitar?". In an interview he said that he is prone to nose bleeds. He has cotton balls in his nose under the surgical mask he wears on stage. Agata, real name Ichirou Agata. Is from Japan, he's played guitar for the band 'Melt Banana' since '92. They're still together, this day. We're not talking about Melt Banana though. We're talking about Agata, his solo album, 'Spike', and his insane guitar playing. So, let's get right into it!

The album starts off with a 32 second track entitled 'Stealth'. It's either a low muffled scratching of strings, or some one breathing. I never figured it out. Then it transitions into Ice... [Read More]

» Valkyria Chronicles

This fantastic game is brought to you by SEGA. Now none of you know this but I am a huge fucking SEGA fan-boy. I've played all the Sakura Taisen series (including the original saturn relases and the PS2 remakes), loved it to death. Even though I had no idea what the fuck anyone was saying half the time. I got more than half the LIPS system questions wrong and took me over 20 times to finish each game, but god dammit... I did it... with out a translation faq to boot! To me, that's an accomplishment. I also played a lot of Segagaga, but that discussion is for another point in time. Yet, I digress... back to Valkyria Chronicles.

This is a game about war... Plain and simple. I could go into the actual story but it's boring as hell and doesn't make for a very good anime. (Thanks Aniplex's A-1 Pictures!) If you really wanna know the story... [Read More]
