Problem: Someone believes God doesn't exist. What is the GIANT implication of this and what must the non-believer then question?
Answer: Answers will definitely vary, but I want to see if someone can arrive at the same conclusion/answers as me

After clocking 60 hours in a week of work, I decided something nice to do would be snow boarding. But I live in Arizona, and as we all know, Arizona is actually located in an alternate dimension where frozen water does not exist. What's a board sport inclined lad to do? Sandboard, that's what.
However, sandboards cost a good $130 for a small cheap one. I was not about to drop that big a chunk of my recent pay check for the chance to break my neck in the desert. Instead, I decided to cut the cost significantly, and purchase the parts myself. So, here goes a documentation on how I did it, complete with pictures and a BOM. I haven't finished the board (need to glue the ply together and get the formica), but I will finish updating it.

Parts List:

(1) Bottle of Titebond III wood glue

(1) Sheet of formica to size

(Lots) of clamps

(4) 2x4x8 planks for the form. Thes number is based on how wide and long you want the board.

(1) 1/8 x 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. Preferably maple or oak, but these are practically unobtainium for us normal folk. I went with your basic lauan ply because thats what I could find, though I've read marine ply would work as well.

Step 1: Make the form
Alrighty, I want my sandboard to be about 3/8 x 11.5 x 46. The width will vary from tip to tail though, like in the design of a snowboard. So, I need at least 7 or 8 2x4 on their to make that happen. Remember, the actual dimensions of a 2x4 are 1.75" x 3.5"

Step 1a: Shape the form for the nose and tail

Anything can work for a stencil. Here, I used my longboard. I made that cut, then used that board as the stencil for the rest of the boards to ensure some sort of precision. To actually make the cuts, I used a jig saw.

Step 1b: Put the pieces together
It doesn't take much to keep it all together. I used 6 drywall screws. Why not wood screws? They're more expensive, and this will be resisting lateral forces, not sheer forces. Don't know what those are? Don't matter, cheaper = better here.

Now do that until you have it as wide as you need it. I went with 7 on this one.

Step 1c: Sand me down, make me round
After I attached them all together, they didn't quite fit together, but that's fine. To remedy this, I used a power planer to get everything roughly even. From there, I used a sander to smooth it out and make fine adjustments. While I was at it, I used the power planer to add a slight camber to the form. I'll explain camber at the end. Final Product:

Not bad. That's a whole lot of sawdust. Also, that power planer (green tool) is a cheap Chinese knock off a Hitachi, damn thing nearly caught fire.

Step 2: Making the ply for the board
This is easier than it sounds. Remember that 1/8" x 4 x 8 board? I used a table saw, set the fence 12" from the blade, and blew through making 8 pieces in 3 minutes. Sand off the edges when you're done, and you're good to go. Here's a pic of the ply post sawing just for good measure:

On the form:

Step 3: Putting it all together

To put it all together, just use the afore mentioned wood glue. I put down a generous portion, then spread it out using a damp foam paint brush to make sure as much of the board as possible was covered. After that, just lay the next piece of ply down, and line it up.

Next, clamp it all down so all the pieces have good contact with each other, and are in the desired shape. On the ends and middle, I used a piece of wood to help distribute the force of the clamp to get an even pressure.

Now, just wait 24 hours and see how it comes out.

24 hours later, here's the result:

Now, I just have to shape it. This takes a bit more effort than you would think, given there are multiple style. You can have a pointed nose, or something more traditional like a snowboard. I'm going to see if I can find or make a stencil for a snowboard and go for that. I'll be using a router for this part as it should make a clean cut than a jig saw or hand saw.
Step 4: Make it pretty and useable
Stay tuned

At this point, I just need to find a cheap source of Formica and figure out a strapping system to get the job done.

In the mean time, comments, questions, and such are welcomed.

You think people are going to want to wait forever just to post on an inactive site? People already don't have an incentive as it is to even come to this site. Threads like "Let's take 1,000,000 shits" doesn't pose as much of an incentive. "Warning for Enema: BEING A BAG OF DICKS, MAYBE EVEN A BARREL" isn't too inviting either.
