Halo movie recruits Peter Jackson
Oscar-winning film director Peter Jackson and his team will produce the forthcoming film based on popular video game Halo.
The director, who is reported to be an avid fan of Halo, will use his Weta production facilities in Wellington, New Zealand where the film will also be shot.
Alex Garland, author of popular novel The Beach, has written the script.
A director and cast are expected to be named in coming weeks.
Alien race
Universal film studios, which will oversee the film's production and distribution, hinted that the movie will draw heavily on the game.
"The game is a good template," said Donna Langley, Universal's production president.
Halo has a complex mix of mythology, characters and worlds and follows the adventures of futuristic super-soldier Master Chief as he fights to save mankind from an alien race.
The game, originally released in 2001, has sold in excess of five million copies around the world. A sequel came out last year.
Peter Jackson is best known for his Lord of the Rings trilogy which was heralded as a movie triumph. On the Halo film Mr Jackson and his wife have been named as executive producers.
In a recorded clip shown at Microsoft's X05 Summit held in Amsterdam Mr Jackson said he had been playing Halo 2 in the evening while shooting King Kong and added that he "can't wait" to work on the film.
The Halo film is due to be released in mid-2007 by Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox film studios.
It joins a growing trend of video games turned movies.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and Doom have all already made it to the silver screen.
Microsoft has done well out of the Halo deal, receiving a reported payment of £2.8m plus 10% of movie ticket sales.
Bungie, the Microsoft-owned venture which developed Halo, said at the time it was looking for "someone who's as committed to the Halo universe as Peter Jackson was to Tolkien's Middle-Earth".
Do they really need a Halo movie?

Any way to milk as much cash as possible from the Halo franchise (which I personally, hate). It's ridiculous to see what masses of cash has amounted from what is, and always will be, a medium-par FPS which has very little scope for being the 'best game ever' as many people proclaim it to be.
This movie is going to be an absolute best-seller, without question. I know for one, that I will never bother to take the time out of my boring life to watch it, even when it's out and everyone's causing a massive ruckus about it.

The movie industry doesn't care if we need a movie or not. They care about the money it will rake in. And in this case...it will most likely be a substantial amount.
As for me...I'll see it. I'll either like it...or hate it. I might talk about it for a little while with friends. But that's about it.

Halo is to X-Box as Final Fantasy 7 is to Playstation.
Expect a lot more spin-offs to follow this one, because it will happen.

If it's any good then I don't mind it being made...
I however am looking forward to King Kong.

Sadly, videogame companies are simply looking for money. It's no longer about producing a good game, and benifitting that way, they rely on the franchise and can leave gaping holes in their games and sequels (FFX-2 is a good example, even if I did like it).
I expect the Halo series to reach the 6 figure before people will start to realise that FPS' aren't all that they're cracked up to be. I'm still yet to find an FPS which is more atmospheric and fun than Doom II.

As with the next Halo game too. Pressing to get it out by Playstation 3's release? There is no possible way a quality game can be made in that short a development time.
On the movie, I'll see it on my computer or from someone renting it or something. Doubt I pay money for it. (that very rarely happens with any movie).

I'm pretty sure that when Halo was released, they planned a 7 game series.
But seeing as how much the title is booming, they'll extend it.
(7 because that's how many known halo's there are in the Halo universe)

I'm pretty sure three will be the last, if there's more, I'll be pissed. Since after you beat two you'de have to be stupid to not realise that the detonation device is Earth. So I guess if they got rid of it they could do something... I dunno. But more than three would get annoying.

I dont know.. I was originally going with 7 games, perhaps 5- but...If you want me to get into game lore, i will.
the Brutes could pose a threat, as they did in the last one (spoilers witheld, although..the threads already infested..)
Perhaps the flood will jump out and infest a Spartan or two, cause for some "dark Master Cheif" action and the arbiter and MC will lead the great army to purge the halo and the universe of the great plague, all the flood flying around and killing things, blah..sounds too.......yea. I just played Halo for the Multiplayer maps. Halo 1 had the Best (Sidewinder Forevar)

I'm hoping the movie people know what they are doing with this one. We all know that previous vidgo game franchises(in which I will not name) did not do very well in the movies scene, but I'll watch it though.

I'm almost positive dual wielding will be in the movie.
While yes, realistically that would be one incredibly unaccurate maneuver, they're super soldiers and they can shoot two guns at any target without looking through any kind of aiming device no problem :P
Also, mega high jumping won't look very good either. But I can't imagine Master Chief not jumping really high onto some ledge or something somewhere in the movie.
So long as they keep stuff like that fast and not all floaty like in the game it'll look fancy. Dual-wielding also won't look too bad, as it's a movie >.> Sword lunging... They might do without that, although they could just make it look he jumps over really fast at someone and drives it into them and pull it off without it looking as floaty as it does in the game...
If there's any floatiness in the movie though that'll be totally gay... They also better be able to run pretty fast for how fast they lunge and how high they jump... None of that jogging speed from the game.

It's a movie... I doubt they'll make it THAT stupid. Heh.
Otherwise you might as well be just watching a friend play the game. They'll probably make it like every other futuristic war movie.
Starship Troopers 1 was good.
I never saw the second.

Our very own 2K-Dragon, is actually a member of the Redvs.Blue Team. He plays as sarge. I was gonna be a member, but they didn't want another young voice actor.
