Alright... so for about the past couple weeks, I've been calling around for a Nintendo Wii... Several different local stores, such as: GameStop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Toys 'R Us, K-Mart and Target. And... no luck.

I kinda have a problem too. When I get my hands on money.. it gets spent. I don't know how long I'm going to have this job at Barnes and Noble, but I know that with the money I still have left from my last paycheck and what I'm getting in my next one, I'll have enough to buy a Wii, Mario Galaxy, and hopefully a memory card and the Mario Galaxy Guide.

But at this point, my REAL problem, is FINDING A FUCKING WII.

D: I know a lot of you have them.. and I must know... How might I go about finding one? Should I consult an "IRL" friend that has one? Should I visit the fucking store everyday? Should I continue to call them?

D: WHAT DO I DO?!

You could ask the store when they get them in next and then plan accordingly.

Stores usually stock on weekends so plan on camping. I'll check around and see if I can find a stock date for any store soon. And the Wii doesn't need a memory card. Best of luck.

Don't call past early afternoon. If you do, even if they got Wii's that day, they'll be sold out.

Don't call on the weekends, stores don't typically get shipments on weekends (and I don't think Wiis in particular come on weekends), so it's a waste of time. EDIT: Although as Link said, sometimes Best Buy/Toys R Us/Target will hold their shipments until Sunday. These days are good because they usually have a lot in stock, and if you get there atleast an hour early you should get one.

If one type of store doesn't have any (like a GameStop) the other 3 in the area aren't going to have them either.

You basically have to figure out when stores get shipments in (usually early afternoon monday through friday) and call them every day they could get them in. If you find a Target/Best Buy/Toys R Us gets a shipment, they probably have a lot. GameStops will average 3-12 units (12 max...). Big stores maybe around 30 average.

Oh and, GameStops did those rainchecks last month, we're guaranteeing those by January 25th. My store still has around half of our preorders to fill (about 10) so we might finish before then. But yeah, don't bother trying GameStops until later this month.

Get a 360. :D

If you don't mind being ripped off, this is good advice.

If you absolutely LOVE being ripped off, there's also the PS3.

If you don't mind being ripped off, this is good advice.360 has a wider selection of games.

It's just the extra accessories and shit that's a complete pain.

I don't know. Paying extra to use the internet connection I already have is more than a little irritating.

I work at Circuit City, where we sell the Wii on a Sunday (it'll be listed in our weekly ad flyer). We normally get our flyers 2 weeks in advance, so I'll let you know.

:/ thanks Vulcan... but there isn't a Circuit City in town...

At Wal-Mart, the best time to call is between 10-12PM. I've noticed they ussualy come in on Wednesday at my Wal-Mart. Also, occasionly Wal-Mart holds till Sunday, so check out the flier and then go camping. ;-*

Normally other stores release Wiis around the same time as us.

Also, try eBay.

EDIT: If you can, get the Sunday paper on Saturday, and look through the ad flyers.

-_-; As expensive as it may be... I think this is the route I'll be taking.

If you happen to have a Costco around, the local one 'round here tends to get at least 70 in per shipment (which comes about the same time as all the other local stores' shipments.. which gets put out Sunday, normally, as everyone else is saying).

Calling just before a store closes/when it opens, going in when the ad says they'll have them, etc are all great ideas, and pretty much all you can do to get from an actual store, rather than on eBay.

o_o I've never heard of Costo.

Oh, and change of plans. Heheh. I have a close friend that works at K-mart. She's going to ask around for a while till they get one and let me know.

D: I may have to camp out in negitive degree weather... but it'll be worth it :3

They're like a Walmart that you have to have a membership for.

Costco is awesome though, lots of really nice deals and they always have stuff in stock, it seems.

o_o Like Sam's Club?...

O_O My mom has a membership at Sam's Club... I wonder if they get any Wiis in...

*calls*

EDIT: They got two shipments in 2006, and only 3 in 2007 :|

Looks like K-Mart it is! (I'd still continue asking around.. for some reason not all stores receive shipments at the same time.. and is your friend REALLY that trustworthy?)

Heheh. Luckily for me, this friend of mine happened to find out that they're getting a shipment of Wiis on Tuesday the 14th <3

:3 And I got the money ready!

Well, good luck then. If this ends up falling through I guarantee you I can find a slightly used Wii owned by a friend and it will be much cheaper. The reason its being sold is because out of all my friends who own Wii, every single one of them is selling it because they said its a waste of money. Personally, I agree. Xbox 360 is worth the price regardless of what Atma says. In the game aspect it easily has the most numerous, highest quality, and best online multiplayer services.

I may agree with Atma, but I've been on 360 for a year and the service is great, most of the people on there aren't complete assholes and if they are I never see them again. Nintendo doesn't have voice chat, and I don't really like that, it doesn't feel like I'm actually playing against anyone. PS3, I haven't ever tried it on because I don't fucking know anyone that has the same games I do. When that day comes, I may agree with Atma at that point. Until then, I'll pay for the quality.

Keep in mind, guys, I do own a 360, and I did pay for it right out of my own pocket, and I do have a Live account, and I did purchase a wireless adapter, and I don't regret any of it.

I'm just giving the reasons I personally believe it is my least favorite of the three new consoles.

Anya

-_-; They didn't come in today... So tomorrow morning I'm going to call them when they open, and if still nothing, then again in the afternoon, and... repeat the next day if STILL nothing -_-;

$350+ is not worth with a console that has a ~33% failure rate.

Well since the 14th didn't actually fall on a Tuesday this year 'round (this month, anyway), I'd guess that your friend meant Tuesday the 15th. And if not... your friend was just messing with you by saying a false date, with a future month having a Tuesday the 14th. :O

GOOD LUCK TODAY!

I like the people on X Box Live much more then the people on Playstation Online, because, they're nicer, and smarter. I hated plating fear on the PS3 in online matches, because you'd get someone and then they'd bitch at how you're cheating while on the 360, everyones all like 'Damn, you killed me. Grrr' Then you get blown up.

I find that more fun.

Wii, isn't a waste of money. Its an amazing little kid system, but for older people, its just not meant to be. But its still pretty cool.

Anya
01-15-2008, 11:35 AM
Try not to generalize people. A lot of my friends my age have Wiis and love them. :p I think it all just depends on what games you like. If you like "party games", the Wii is the way to go, if you like online, especially shooters, I'd say Xbox 360, for RPGs and otherwise, PS3.

All systems have their good and bad points, it just depends on how much they all stick out in your heads--not to mention past experiences with their systems. I had an N64, a GameCube, a PS2, PSP, DS, GBA. I obviously like Sony and Nintendo, so I'm going to buy a Wii and a PS3 sometime in the future. But then again, even before this thread, I had considered getting a 360...

Anyway... Morning call gave me nothing. I'm going to call again this afternoon, and maybe stop by. :0 wish me luck

Actually, so far the only good RPG's on the next-gen consoles that I've seen are all on the 360. I dont see anything good on the PS3, and so, I'm not actually all for it. Especially since RPG's is pretty much the only Genre I like. The only good game I see coming out on the PS3 so far is Disgaea 3.

Anya

Star Ocean 4, Final Fantasy XIII, and I believe the new Tales of are coming out on the PS3

I could be wrong about the Tales of game though. But hey, I say give it some time.

There's very strong rumors (and evidence - which has been deleted) Tales of Vesperia is coming out for the 360. There was probably a deal involved with this in order to make the 360 appeal more to Japanese gamers.

But yeah, since I'm for RPGs, I would only get a 360 and a PS3 myself. Wii's games don't interest me.

Yeah, we have a Wii at my place, but the only game I plan on playing on it is the Tales of Symphonia Sequel, if it ever comes out.

Yeah, we have a Wii at my place, but the only game I plan on playing on it is the Tales of Symphonia Sequel, if it ever comes out.

I do believe that is supposed to be out this year in Japan, and quite possibly here as well later in the year.

But yeah, Wii isn't looking like a strong RPG system. Aside from the Tales game, there's Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, which from the short trailer that showed gameplay, looked very, very cool, and I'm pretty sure I heard the team behind Baten Kaitos is working on another unannounced game.

Problem with the Crystal Chronicles game is that since last summer, the game has failed to show up at any of the big recent events (in any form, including trailers) including the Tokyo Game Show and Square-Enix's own big event.
