View Full Version : [Shonen] Jump Superstars (NDS)
Anybody played this game before?
My friend ordered it a while back and I got a chance to play it. For a game w/out "Nintendo WiFi" Capabilities and considering it's relatively old it's a good game. And it's one of the few games that -forces- you to use both screens--unless you don't want to unlock anything.. or beat the tutorial for that matter.

FYI: It will most likely never be released in America due to licensing complexities. For example, the US license of Dragon Ball is exclusively held by Atari, while One Piece is handled by Bandai.
BTW: Yes.. the game is in Japanese.. so you -will- need an FAQ.. my friend printed out all 30+ pages... ^_~
Luffly, that looks like it'd be a horrible game to play! =p
So what's it like? How's it play?

That looks damn obscure, But if it's simple then the language should not be an issue, I somehow pwnd Frame Gride on my Dreamcast in but a few hours, and it was fun (unlike Virtual On 2, which was just Baaaad.) The in-game needed no reading, so that was ok, and figuring the menus was trial and error. As for equiping weapons, there were loads of meters and numbers, so I went by the GFX.
Looks weird, what the hell are you meant to do in that game, I don't get it... No satfields, space ships or mechs?!
Think:
"Super Smash Bros. Melee for the NDS"
------
You use the face buttons (X, Y, B, A) to perform basic attacks; when used in conjunction with the D-pad you can perform various signature moves learned by that particular variation of the current battle character.
-- There are Battle Characters, Support Characters, and Helper Characters
>> Battle characters* are used to fight one another || they are either level 3, 4, 5, 6 , or 7**; the higher the level the further into the manga series the character is: ex. Naruto Lv. 1 - basic Naruto; Naruto Lv. 7 - Red-chakra Naruto
>> Support characters are essentially summons that usually attack the enemy (consuming 1 Energy Bar) || these characters are either Lv. 1, 2, or 3
>> Helper chacters are summons that either heal you (ex. Senzu Bean), cause status effects to the enemy (ex. Hiruma - Eyeshield 21 can summon*** the team mascot to blind you), or strengthen your character (ex. Kakashi can make you temporarily invincible); they also consume 1 Energy Bar per use || these characters are either Lv. 1, 2, or (?) 3****
------
Each of the aforementioned characters are used to fill up "manga pages" (bottom screen/touchscreen). By pressing their panel on the touchscreen you can summon them or -if it is a battle character- switch characters.
Their level determines how many spaces the character takes up; I believe that each page is 20 spaces (5x4). I don't think that there is a limit to how many battle characters you can have; but you must have at least one support character AND helper character.
*The battle characters are from their respective MANGA (i.e. no SSJ4 Goku.. Good ridance!); they are limited to how far the manga was at the time of creation
**Not every character has a Lv. 7 (or 6) variation.
***Heh. A Summon summoning a summon.
****I can't remember if a Helper character can be Lv. 3
**EDIT** Well.. Dr. Slump can summon various sludge (w/ faces) and out-dated-looking mechs that pwn you (more so the sludge o_o ).

Oh, I understand, so there ARE mechs, confound to a corner -- perhaps. But it makes sense. Good. I supose that's a good use of the touchscreen, if they ever make a Deus Ex game for it, they should have the inventory like Deus Ex 1 (not the lame one in Ex 2) and let your sort it out by dragging stuff with your finger, and equip by clicking twice, swiftly. A game like that would probably convert me to one of them silly little innovative consoles.
Oh ya! I can't believe I forgot:
Battle characters can perform "tag-team" techniques if properly connected via 3 -special- tag-team (Kanji) panels. These tag teams use 1 Energy Bar; just like each character's individual signature "X-button" moves. However, tag teams are usually kooler/deadly-er. (i.e. Some are useful.. others are meh...)
Good
[x] Zolo + Kenshin = Swirling, Slashing Dash o' pwn
[x] Goku + Naruto = Spirit Rasengan || Ooh.. mucho pwn
[x] Yami Yugi + BoBo-Bo Bo-BoBoBo = Yami pops out of BoBo-Bo's afro and summons Slyfer* || Awesome.. =d
[x] Piccolo + Dr.Slump = Fusion Dance; Once fused they scream and pwn you w/ their Kanji Scream || Never knew words were so powerful
[x] Ichigo + Yoh Asakura = Both Slash w/ their respective Spirit Swords and a huge -black- Spirit Wave ass-pwn's you || So -fuzcking- awesome
[These are some of my personal favorites.. there are other 'good' ones.. but ya.. ^_~]
Bad
Ichigo+Vegeta (for example) = Something involving Ichigo throwing Kon (a plushie); the enemy can no longer use the "X" button, nor can they opt to switch out || in other words, they weren't meant for each other... [take that for w/e meaning you want too.. heh.]
[too many.. they suck.. so no.. no more...]
*Yami can Summon Slyfer in one of his Levels as an "X" Move.. but this one was wonky.. so I like it
