User Ranks

Yeah, it's about time this forum could use some user ranks, so I made a few pixel ranks that we could use - an alternative approach than the common stars we see for user ranks these days.

Mit's right about making it the skinner's choice, but you still should choose an option for say... the "Default Skin," and all others that choose to use the default buttons.

What I'd have to do is set it up so that everyone has a usergroup and they get the added heart/whatever when they hit a certain post count, but it might over rule their user title.

As of right now, if you make first choices worth 2 and second choices 1:

Tallies:
1. Hearts: l ll ll l ll ll (10 votes)
2. Pistols: ll l ll l (6 votes)
3. Cards: ll ll (4 votes)

Note: rooky and BM's "second" choices count as a first choice because Mit's suggestion is for everything, but default skin. Which is what the Vote is for. (You're welcome to add a valid second choice, though.)

I still don't really see the guns fitting in with the atmosphere of the board, and I think I would be annoyed by the big gun sprites under everyone's names, particularly my own. I can't say I think the other three would look much better, but the hearts are the smallest and most discreet, which is why I like them the most.

Let's just make it different for every skin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a ranks/ directory for each skin. I suppose we should use that. Hearts for a Zelda skin, guns for a MGS or Devil May Cry skin, cards for a World Championship Poker skin (lol). Perhaps even shurikens for the ninja skin. no more taiping

Different on different skins might be a better idea. Maybe make one or two for each skin and choose from those?

Okay, it's confirmed - the hearts will be the main "default" buttons of all skins until they are changed from their respective skinner.

Now, should the hearts follow a set color hiearchy?

Example:
1-100 posts: blue hearts
100-200 posts: purple hearts
200-300 posts: green hearts
300-400 posts: orange hearts
400-500 posts: yellow hearts
500-600 posts: white hearts
600-beyond posts: red hearts

or

1-100 posts: one red heart
100-200 posts: two red hearts
200-300 posts: three red hearts
300-400 posts: four red hearts
400-500 posts: five red hearts
500-600 posts: white hearts
600-beyond posts: six red hearts

I think if a user has zero posts, he or she should not have a "rank" per se. Just leave the group with zero posts with no hearts and a title of "inactive" or something. Then, starting at one post, do your rankings.

Maybe we could just to it Zelda style and have two rows of hearts, and the lower ranked people can have a corresponding number of hearts missing (colored black) (transparent) or however it is. I forget.

That would be entirely possible. Because you can go to the master skin and just tell all skins to pull userrank.png ( or whatever you would call the user rank ) from that skins particular directory. So each skin would just have to name their user rank images the same but just include them in their skin directory and our skin system should take care of the rest.

Well, it turns out that Zero would have been right had the User Ranks just been a simple sub-category of "Image Paths" under "All Style Options."

It turns out that it's a completely different part of the AdminCP, which I can't and wouldn't touch, in fear that I'd make the forums explode.

Originally, 8 hearts was supposed to be the maximum (which is about 1.5k -2k posts), however Sean hasn't fixed it yet and we all have maximum hearts.

It should be like:

0 Posts start you with one heart
50 posts gives you another heart
100 posts give you another heart
etc.

You would get hearts each 50 or 100 so posts.

1) Paint can't do transparency.

2) You don't have to forward them to the Anfiniti domain. My buttons are retrieved from http://juni0r-inc.clonestyle.com/calligraphy, for example. Sean can upload them later. It's not necessary.

Here, try these. They might have a white background though, and use GIF instead of gif (some things are case-sensitive), but whoever uploads them could probably fix both those problems in a second.

What would you all say to upping the max amount of hearts people can get to 10? Or maybe 20, if we can do 2 lines of 10 (which is possible with individual pictures from 11 on up I think).

pariah thought 20 hearts would suck, since it would be too much, which I understand, but well.. it's Zelda hearts, and the max is 20 on the games, so eh. I thought it might be snazzy.

EDIT: In which case everyone would start with at least 3 hearts, too, with the 20 heart theme.

I'm actually quite content with my hearts, and would prefer not having ruppees instead, or mixed with them. But if we can make a choice for people, then everyone is happy. I'd be the one having to create all the user ranks anyway, so the extra effort (bar coding the CP option, if it's possible), would be on me.

Okay, tell me how I'd be able to add a endline? Because when I work on the hearts, the set up is, I put a number in a text box of how many times to repeat the sprite, and then type the url in another box of the sprite to use. I have no idea how to do any endlines or linebreaks or anything of that sort with that set-up, so it wouldn't even look like the thing I just showed above. It'd either be like 20 hearts all in a single row, or 17 or so with 3 on another line.

I'm not entirely sure, seeing as I've never really used the Admin Panel beyond toying with the shoutbox bot, and messing with my skin. I didn't even use the UI they have their initially; at first I kept uploading a revised text file.

Is the only way to control the User Ranks script via text boxes? It was added after I was demoted so I don't evne know what the set-up looks like. The only alternative to this would be to call for a different image each time you go up a Rank, which wouldn't be hard to make but would probably demand a different script.

I'll screen shot it in a bit and show you what it looks like, but it's really lacking as far as options. I don't even think you can use more than just one image per rank, either.
