View Full Version : Square Enix. Mult-platform?

A lot of us are fans of RPG's. We also are aware that quite a lot of them have appeared on the ps2, (Current era people. I'm not talking about history here.), such as Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest games, and soon to come, KH II, and FF XII.
But in recent news, the president of Square-Enix had discussed the financial increases of being a mulit-platform company. I.E. Releasing FF games for the Xbox 360 and the Revolution. Nothings set in stone, but he discussed the gain for the company in favor of multi-platform.
Personally...I'm not worried about it. If it's as it sounds...the FF titles would still be released for the PS2. The only difference would that they would be 360 and Revolution titles as well.
What I don't understand is why people care about it? You have a PS2. You have other systems. Who the fuck cares? So your favorite games are not exclusive to your system. Did you create the system? What's there to be prideful about?
Another GREAT example is Halo. What do you think would be xbox owner's reaction to PS2 recieving the rights to the Halo franchise? I'm sure SOME of them would be furious about it...
Anyway...you know what to discuss. So do it bitches.

Holy. Hell.
If they release titles for the Revolution aside from a Crystal Cronicles piece of crap I will not have to get a PS3, meaning I can spend more money on buying more games and downloading all the Metroid, Mario, and Zelda games I want! Woot.

It's the worst thing I've ever heard.
What kind of gaming company would want to make their games multi-platform aside from sports? Isn't that, kinda the meaning of buying ONE console, because you really like the series on there? I mean, I got the Xbox for Halo, Star Wars, and the Godly RPGs. I got the Gamecube for the Mario and Zelda legacy. And I have my PS2 for the Final Fantasy games. Seriously, this is messed up, and it's a terrible idea.
What would you think with people will respond when the see Super Mario Kart IV on the Xbox, or Halo VI on the Gamecube! It's ridiculous and Square has already made two major mistakes, and one of them was putting a Final Fantasy game on the Gamecube, but not on the Xbox (which could of pulled out all of the game's feature to it's fullest).
Needless to say, I will be pissed.

If you remember Sean...the FF series was a Nintendo exclusive. You didn't complain much when it came to Sony.
But to answer your question, a company that wants to make money.

Oh sure, the ORIGINAL NES and SNES, but those don't count in present, because:
A) They aren't produced anymore, thus, no new copies of the game.
B) There's NO new games for the NES and SNES, so it doesn't matter.
And I didn't complain, well yeah, seeing as I wasn't born yet? I started with a Genesis and a 64, I didn't found about about Final Fantasy until FFVIII came out, and this was by accident because I was at a rental store and I thought it looked neat. Then my mom bought me FFVII for my birthday by accident, and hence, my FF career started.
But the thing is, the 64 NEVER would of been able to handle ANY of the FF games that were released on the Playstation; that is, of course, unless they were all sprite games.

Not reproduced? Dawn of souls for the GBA. FF chronicles for the playstation 1. Now they're having ANOTHER remake of one of the originals for the ps2.

Say that again? On what system?
Exactly.

On what system was it original on?
A nintendo platformer.
It should be released on the Gamecube. Which is a Nintendo platformer.

I Hate the multi platform idea. Fro example I got GTA SanAndreas for PS2 then a few months later it came out for Xbox. I was So pissed. I would rather have it for Xbox but I didn't want to spend another 50 dollars for the same game. FF I would admit that would be pretty cool to have for Xbox360 when it comes out, but it will still be a hasel with it being muti platform.

Hm, I thought Sean Fury's first post was sarcasm...
Anywho, Squenix is most likely not going to release the main FF series on system's other than PS2 (I believe Dragon Quest too). So, what's the big deal? Most of their other games people wouldn't even care if they came to other systems, and a lot of them are on other systems.
What they're trying to get at, is PS no longer has as overwhelming a share in the video game market as they used to, and they want to make more money by putting their games on more systems and getting them out to more people. A simple strategy.
Also: Crystal Chronicles = a great game when you get people to play it with you, and the Revolution version is going to have online play, which means you won't have to worry about that anymore...
Also: Another remake of the originals for PS2? Where did this come from? The first two were already on PS1 with new cutscenes, and then they were on GBA with no cutscenes... What's the use of a PS2 version remake?
Also: You're whole above argument is going in the wrong direction. Squenix has no interest in heritage and loyalty to a single console company. They only care about who's doing the best (NES >>> Any other console that was out at the time, SNES > Genesis, PS > N64, PS2 > GC/XB)
Square Enix has plenty of affiliated developers. Now with Sakaguchi forming his own development company, Myst Walker, he plans to publish games with Square Enix for all of the next gen consoles. They have announced the production of FFXI for X-Box 360, I think.
I don't have a problem with that because...
1) I have all of this generation's consoles.
2) I will have all of the next gen consoles.
3) I don't play FFXI anyways.
As long as they continue to make good games, I can't complain as to which console they're for. I've played awesome games on all of them.
We can only wait and see what the future holds.
I really wouldn't buy a system for the Final Fantasy/Other Square-Enix Title series anyway. Though I doubt it'll happen, I hope it doesn't since I mainly only buy Sony systems.

I could honestly care less if he does, like mitman says its quite a simple strategy. Besides Squenix isnt the only developers out there, even if he did go that way those who find "pride" in their system by having games only come out for that system still have others. I personally will be buy Xbox360 first (have it preordered already) and if the FF games come out for them, no reason for me to get PS3, well...maybe there will be, I'll probably get it anyway. But nonetheless its for cash purposes only they do that, strategy and money.
